Currently, about 30 miles of trails meander through parks, residential neighborhoods, hills and around lakes and creeks. Another seven miles are under construction. Sargent-Beach said the goal of the city's Master Trail Plan is to eventually have 72 miles of trails that will allow residents to walk to schools, parks, college campuses or to dinner at Old California Restaurant Row. The plan also includes connections to Escondido, Vista and Oceanside. Trails leading to Carlsbad already are in place.
