Christian colleges blessed with enrollment surge - Sioux Falls Argus Leader

Klyn had decided he could better reach his goal of becoming an elementary school teacher by finishing his education at a Christian college.What Klyn didn't expect was that he would pay less in tuition at Northwestern College in Orange City, Iowa, than he did at Iowa State University in Ames."When I talked to a couple of people about transferring, they were like, 'Why would you do that? You're going to have to pay so much more,' " he said. ADVERTISMENT "But when I got my (aid) package, it was cheaper."Enrollment at religiously affiliated colleges such as Northwestern is steadily growing, according to data from the Council for Christian Colleges & Universities. Its 2005 study of 102 member schools found growth of almost 71 percent from 1990 to 2004. That is an increase of about 800,000 students.During that same time frame, enrollment at all independent religious campuses increased 27.5 percent, while at public four-year campuses, growth was almost 13 percent.
