This year's Black Hills State University Rodeo Club is taking the bull by the horns and is working to get the club the recognition it once had as a full-fledged college team.One way or another, most of the kids are western South Dakotans. Many are from rodeo families. For example, Abby Monnens is the daughter of a South Dakota 4-H rodeo queen; Brad Lemmel is the son of one the world's best-known rodeo cowboys, Red Lemmel.Most of the other members tend toward similar backgrounds. They hope they can spark the community interest and college support to get their team the support and recognition that generations of BHSU students had in the past.Their majors range from accounting to mass communications and business. They want a top quality education, but they also want rodeo competition.Club members already have made contact with the Belle Fourche Black Hills Roundup Committee to get involved in the Roundup and they've talked about offering help at the South Dakota High School Finals Rodeo in Belle Fourche.Because of the Belle Fourche rodeo tradition, they hope to see support for their work from the Tri-State area community.Longtime PRCA rodeo announcer and radio personality Jim Thompson said he's doing what - more available
