Drug Enforcement Administration authorities on Wednesday said that a drug ring in Medellin, Colombia, used dogs to smuggle heroin on commercial flights into New York City. As reported by The Associated Press, the DEA said that a veterinarian in Colombia stitched 14 packets of heroin into the bellies of six puppies. Three of the dogs died of infection. "It's outrageous that they'd use small, innocent puppies in this way," said John P. Gilbride, head of the DEA's New York office.
