Funeral Set For Vivian Malone Jones - WSFA
George Wallace Junior says Vivian Malone Jones was "a true American hero" and he was deeply saddened to hear of her death. He recalled that in 1996, the Wallace Foundation presented her with the first Lurleen B. Wallace Award of Courage. The award presentation was an opportunity for Jones and Governor Wallace to meet. The younger Wallace says his father and Jones ended up as friends. Governor Wallace made his famous Stand in the Schoolhouse Door in 1963 to try to keep Jones and James Hood from integrating the University of Alabama.
