WORK-MINDED WEEK AHEAD WITH JOB FAIRS ON TAP - Pine Bluff Commercial
On Wednesday, a career fair will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. for University Of Arkansas At Pine Bluff and Southeast Arkansas College students.More than 55 businesses, government agencies, graduate and professional schools and school districts are expected to participate in the 2005 Fall UAPB/SEARK College Career Day and Teacher Education Fair.The event will be held in the Kenneth L. Johnson Health, Physical Education and Recreation Complex Arena at UAPB.This is the first year the two colleges have combined their efforts to hold a job fair.This week, the Pine Bluff City Council will consider raising residential waste and garage collection rates beginning in November. The council will meet at 5:30 p.m. today in the council chambers at the Civic Center.The council will consider a resolution raising the monthly residential rate from $12.95 to $13.50 per month. City Finance Director Ed Bogy said the city’s contract with Waste Management runs from Nov. 1 to Oct. 31.The rate hike is a “built-in cost of living increase” aimed at covering higher costs.Fourth Ward Alderman George Stepps, sponsor of the resolution adjusting garbage rates, described it as “an annual thing that is in the contract.”Also this week, the Memorial Star Campaign will - more available
