Brandeis professor to visit LR college - Arkansas Democrat-Gazette (subscription)
Philander Smith College will host its second speaker in its “Bless This Mic: A Hip-Hop President’s Lecture Series” at 7 p.m. on Oct. 18. Thomas Shapiro will visit the campus. He is the Pokross professor of law and social policy at the Heller School for Social Policy and Management at Brandeis University in Massachusetts. He is the author of The Hidden Cost of Being African American: How Wealth Perpetuates Inequality. The lecture will be in the Harry R. Kendall Center at Philander Smith. The lecture is free and open to the public. His book, Black Wealth/White Wealth, co-authored with Melvin Oliver, won the American Sociological Association’s Distinguished Scholarly Award and the C. Wright Mills Award from the Society for the Study of Social Problems.
