The Accrediting Commission for Community and Precollegiate Art Schools is the only organization that evaluates art schools with non-degree instruction. Only three other arts schools have the honor. ''It tells anybody that we take very seriously what we do as an art school. We have passed the standards on a national level and met them with flying colors,'' says Ann Lalik, director of educational programs and gallery exhibitions at Baum, which offers classes for children and adults. The accreditation process, begun in 2001, is voluntary. ''We at the Baum School decided we wanted to see on a national level how we compare,'' says Lalik. Over two years, the school went through a process of self-examination, analyzing every aspect of the school, from grounds to programs to record-keeping.
