Variety adds lots of SPICE to fashion show, buffet - Arkansas Democrat-Gazette (subscription)
FAYETTEVILLE — The second annual Shades of You Hair and Fashion Show gave more than 200 guests a taste of just how delicious diversity can be, offering food that showcased almost as much variety as the models on the runway. Hosted by the African American Heritage Celebration Committee, the Nov. 4 affair focused on diversity and the changing face of Northwest Arkansas. The event was again held at the Fayetteville Town Center on the eve of the University of Arkansas’ homecoming. However, silent and live auctions were added this year. Proceeds go to the Sickle Cell Anemia Foundation of Arkansas and the Eddie Armstrong Scholarship Foundation. Designer Herb Langston of Little Rock made best use of the evening’s theme, “The Power of Emotion.” A portion of the fundraiser called Taste of Northwest Arkansas allowed guests to pile their plates high with cuisine from more than 20 local restaurants. After some mingling and a stroll through the silent auction items, they took their seats for the fashion show. Fifty or so amateur models of diverse cultural backgrounds hit the runway in ensembles from local retailers.
