William Ferchland, wferchland@tahoedailytribune.com October 17, 2005 Print Email With time limits thrown out because of a small crowd and the nonappearance of one candidate, three vying for two seats on Lake Tahoe Unified School District Board of Education emphasized why they should be elected Nov. 8 during a candidate forum.The first of four scheduled and the only one sponsored by the Lake Tahoe Educational Foundation, Thursday's forum at South Tahoe Middle School gave the opportunity for lone incumbent Wendy David, retired teacher John Nemes and education consultant Angela Swanson to respond to questions ranging from opinions on propositions to how to handle a disgruntled parent.Candidate Rolf Hermann "Ralph" Mayer, a retired prosecutor from Southern California, was absent. In all, nine questions were posed to the candidates. Moderator Suzanne Kingsbury, presiding judge of El Dorado County Superior Courts, relayed the questions from index cards or from members of an audience of about 30.One question posed dealt with curriculum and whether they felt it was equitable to all students. David thought the academics were equitable but reasoned that since the district continues to change, so should curriculum.
