Oct. 17, 2005 CR's Crabill names former head coaches to advisory group by Carol Harrison, 10/16/2005 In response to ongoing community concerns about the future of the football program at College of the Redwoods, CR President Casey Crabill and Athletic Director Joe Hash have recruited former head coaches Fred Whitmire and Jim McAuley to lead a community advisory group.Hash had formal discussions with the two former coaches about recruiting a good cross section of former players, boosters and community leaders to assist the CR administration in “looking for some direction in how the community would like to see the program operate.“The obvious situation calls for some direction about what should be implemented, goals and what’s realistic for the program,” Hash said. “We don’t want to make decisions in a vacuum.”“I told him I would do whatever I could to help College of the Redwoods and the football program,” said McAuley, who started the football program in 1967 and led it to three state championships and two northern California titles. “Football has been good for the college, and the college has been good for football.
