This is from his studio in Greenwich Village in New York, where he notes that the New York Times “arts section is bigger than the sports section.” Dombek, a painter with a home in Goshen in Northwest Arkansas, has been in the arts paradise known as Manhattan since September, courtesy of a Marie Walsh Sharpe Art Foundation grant for free studio space. He was one of 14 selected for the honor among 900 applicants around the world. This comes on the heels of the Arkansas Arts Council’s Governor’s Arts Award for Lifetime Achievement. Art experts will tell you that the honors and laurels for the 61-year-old Dombek will keep coming.
