Getting a head start on college Weehawken High School juniors ... - Weehawken Reporter
At the University of Maryland in College Park, Md., the Weehawken students were treated to a 90-minute walking tour of the vast campus. After the students were treated to a brief historical tour of the nation's capital, visiting the World War II Memorial, the Weehawken contingent headed off to Georgetown, where they also extensively toured the campus. Campen was impressed with the Georgetown tour guide. "She said she was from a small town in Pennsylvania," Campen said. "She said her challenge in Georgetown was to let Georgetown know who she was. She thought she really had to sell herself and highlight her uniqueness. I liked that about her." The students had to be reminded of some important tips during their trip. "While grades and SAT [Scholastic Assessment Test] scores are important, there are more than enough college applicants who have great grades and SAT scores," Campen said. "That's only the first step. Letters of recommendation and personalized essays on the applications set the student apart."
