Four Arkansas instructors have been named “English Teachers of the Year” by the Arkansas Council of Teachers of English and Language Arts. Dr. Rebecca Williams of the University of Central Arkansas at Conway is the College English Teacher of the Year; Thelma Tarver of Fayetteville High School is the Secondary School English Teacher of the Year; Margaret Lockhart of Rogers Middle School is the Middle School English Teacher of the Year; and Vicki Skarda of De-Valls Bluff Elementary School is the Elementary School Language Arts Teacher of the Year. Leon and Linda Barnes of Little Rock, ministers to the Central Church of Christ in Little Rock, recently received a Distinguished Christian Service award from Harding University at the 82nd Annual Bible Lectureship. Arkansas art educators and art-education advocates were recognized at the Arkansas Art Educators Fall Conference, Nov. 2-5 in Little Rock. Susan Turner Purvis, of Gibbs Magnet School of International Studies and Foreign Languages, was named 2005-06 Arkansas Art Educator of the Year. Chuck Sorrells, of Lakeside Primary School, was recognized as the Arkansas Elementary Art Educator of the Year.
