Benton artist Sue Stotlar leaves a legacy of beauty - Benton Evening News
Sue Stotlar was an artist who saw the beauty in people - and painted it.The Benton resident, whose portraits have been displayed nationwide, died Thursday morning after a long battle with cancer. She was 75.Graveside services will be held at noon Tuesday, Oct. 18, at the Masonic & Odd Fellows Cemetery in Benton, officiated by the Rev. John Seibert. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to noon at the Hobbs-Johnson Funeral Home in Benton.She is survived by her husband, Ted, along with five children, five grandchildren and many friends.A complete obituary can be found on page 5 of today's edition.Among her accomplishments, Stotlar was commissioned to paint a portrait of President Abraham Lincoln that was installed on the USS Abraham Lincoln, a U.S. Navy aircraft carrier, in 1989. Stotlar's portrait of former U.S. Sen. Paul Simon currently is on display at the John A. Logan College Museum in Carterville.
