Bookkeeper stole more than $43,000 from Girl Scouts - Fort Dodge Messenger
T.J. Wilson will serve 11 years probation for stealing more than $43,000 from the Girl Scouts of Lakota Council. Wilson, 25, pleaded guilty to charges of first-degree theft, ongoing criminal conduct and fraudulent practices Sept. 6. The charges could have carried up to 36 years in prison. He was sentenced Monday in Webster County District Court. “You have harmed some of the most innocent people in our community,” District Court Judge William Ostlund told Wilson before pronouncing sentence. Wilson will have to pay restitution, court costs, fines, and not have any violations of law during his probation. “Your payback is to become a law-abiding citizen, pay (the Girl Scout council) back, and be sorry for what you’ve done for the rest of your life, because you’ll never know the full impact of what you have done,” Ostlund said to Wilson after pronouncing sentence. Wilson’s attorney, Jim Fitzgerald, pointed to the pre-sentence investigation and how Wilson has complied with all court orders since being charged in May. Fitzgerald also noted that Wilson has no previous criminal record.
