This was one of the community service projects the Girls Scouts do throughout the year. Employees from Mario Pastega Pepsi Bottling Co. also contributed to the event. When the work was finished, everyone enjoyed a picnic and BLM provided the girls with some “BLM swag” as part of the National Public Lands Day event.Corvallis man gets ‘Rising Star’Martin Thompson of Corvallis has been named a recipient of a 2005 Loren L. “Stub” Stewart “Rising Star” award by the Oregon Parks and Recreation Department.The awards are named after a long-time member of the State Parks Advisory Committee, “Stub” Stewart. Stewart also served as chairman of the advisory board for 23 years. The Stewart awards are given for outstanding volunteer service to Oregon’s parks and recreational areas.The “Rising Star” award is given for exceptional service over a brief period of time. Thompson is a founding member of the Boston Mill Society, also known as the Friends of Thompson’s Mills.
