Spartans capture NAC golf crown - Rutland Herald
In Belgrade, Maine, the Castleton State College men's golf program completed a remarkable inaugural season Sunday with a North Atlantic Conference victory, and by the smallest of margins.CSC and Husson tied at 312, with the fifth score — the one not usually counted in five-man team play — giving the Spartans the victory in the tie-breaker.Castleton's Brian Smith won medal honors fot the third time this season with a 2-over par 73, a couple of shots beneath his season's average."In the very beginning we said our program would be competitive but to win the conference championship in the first year is awesome," said coach Leo Reynolds. "I just think that it's just going to help us to get off to a start like this."Sunday's play took place on a very wet Belgrade Lakes course that was saturated to the point that Saturday's 18 holes were cancelled.The wet, windy conditions had little effect on Smith, who made three birdies.
