Navy celebrates anniversary at Academy Chapel - Annapolis Capital

Mullen said.Thursday marked the anniversary of the U.S. Navy, which traces its origins to the Continental Navy established on Oct. 13, 1775. On that date, the Continental Congress authorized the procurement, equipping, manning and dispatching of a small number of armed vessels.The Rev. Daniel Coughlin, chaplain of the U.S. House of Representatives, delivered the sermon.Appointed to his post in March 2000, the Rev. Coughlin is the first Catholic to hold the post of House Chaplain, which was created in 1774."Today, we live in a very pluralistic world, surrounded by the age of information like no other," he said.The United States is "moving the whole world forward" toward tolerance and understanding, the Rev.
