Sacred Heart: The Pioneers lost their regular season opener, falling 5-2 to Union Friday night in Schenectady, NY. Despite being outplayed through the first two periods, the Pioneers still had a chance in the third, keeping the pressure on by outshooting Union 14-8 in the final stanza. Seniors Bernie Chimel and Chris Connerty both netted their first goals of the season for the Pioneers in the loss. Senior Rocco Molinaro and juniors Todd Spencer and Pierre Luc-O’Brien each picked up assists in the game. Junior Jason Smith made 33 saves in goal for the Pioneers in the losing effort. The Pioneers are off this weekend and will open their Atlantic Hockey schedule next Friday and Saturday night (10/28 and 10/29) at home against Canisius.
