Ralph Hexter becomes Hampshire College's fifth president - Providence Eyewitness News
AMHERST, Mass. Hampshire College has a new president.Ralph Hexter becomes the fifth person to head the Amherst school, succeeding Gregory Smith Prince, who stepped down this year after 16 years on the job.A gathering of more than 700 was on hand yesterday for Hexter's inauguration.A native of Cleveland, Ohio, the 52-year-old Hexter has degrees from Yale; Corpus Christi College, Oxford, and Harvard. He also served as executive dean of letters and sciences at the University of California at Berkeley.Founded in 1965, Hampshire College is a deliberately untraditional liberal arts school that has a student population of about 13-hundred.
