Maritime school will open, but not on Winter Island - Salem News
In the meantime, Parker has moved on. His American Maritime Academy will open in November, offering Coast Guard certification courses in the Hawthorne Hotel library. Parker hopes to expand the school in the spring to include classes in everything from how to buy a boat to how to cook on board one. Parker envisions the program as "almost a junior college" as compared to the larger and more prestigious Massachusetts and Maine maritime academies.
