When it's a boat. Or, to put it another way, when Simon Starling, the Glasgow artist, gets his hands on it. In a simple, yet audacious, transformation, Starling's contribution to the 2005 Turner Prize exhibition, which opens today at Tate Britain, consists of a humble wooden boat shed that the artist spotted on the banks of the Rhine. He dismantled it, transformed it into a boat, then paddled it down the river to a Basel museum, where he subsequently returned it to its previous form.
