County's proposed budget grows ever tighter - Port Huron Times Herald
County commissioners had been counting on some extra money in the contingency fund to bring back jobs at the Michigan State University Extension that were on the chopping block for next year. Commissioners have plans to take money from either the county's delinquent tax fund or fund balance to pay for restoring those jobs, in essence spending more money than they are taking in. The fund balance in 2006 will have about $7 million; the delinquent tax fund will have about $20 million. 2005 began with more than $8.5 million in the fund balance.
