After he left the army, Ogdon continued his training with Krenek and also studied with such prominent figures as Roger Sessions at the University of California Berkeley and with Rene Leibowitz while a Fulbright scholar in Paris. He received his doctorate in music theory at Indiana University and held faculty positions at such institutions as the University of Texas in Austin, Minnesota's College of St. Catherine and at Illinois Wesleyan.
