MEN'S HOCKEY (2-0-0, 0-0-0 Hockey East): The 19th ranked University of Vermont men's hockey team started the 2005-06 regular season by winning the Nye Frontier Classic in Anchorage, Alaska, by defeating Michigan Tech 4-3 (OT) and Alaska-Anchorage 2-0 … The win over Michigan Tech gave Vermont a win a regular season opener for the first time since the 1996-97 season when they defeated New Hampshire 5-1 … Senior assistant captain Brady Leisenring (Stowe, Vt.) was named the Most Outstanding Player of the classic scoring two goals and picking up an assist … He scored the game-winner 34 seconds into overtime to give Vermont the win over the Huskies … It was the eighth game-winner of his career putting him sixth on Vermont's all-time list … Leisenring was playing in his first action since Nov. 13, 2004 at Clarkson after missing all but six games with an injury last year … Sophomore Torrey Mitchell (Greenfield Park, Quebec) had a goal and two assists on the weekend … Freshman Dean Strong (Mississauga, Ontario) had two goals and an assist in his first collegiate weekend … Sophomore Joe Fallon (Bemidji, Minn.) won both games in net for Vermont improving his career record to - more available
