Gala stokes scholarships to nurture future nurses - Arkansas Democrat-Gazette (subscription)
SPRINGDALE — Hundreds of nurses in training and the family, colleagues and doctors who support them attended the sixth annual Stars for Nursing Gala last weekend. The Oct. 8 soiree at the Holiday Inn Northwest Arkansas Hotel and Convention Center raised in excess of $100,000 for scholarships in the area’s five nursing programs. The training grounds include the Northwest division of the Area Health Education Center, part of the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences; the Eleanor Mann School of Nursing at the University of Arkansas; the Harb-Ber School of Nursing ; Northwest Arkansas Community College; and Northwest Technical Institute. Guests enjoyed a tasting of Post Familie Wines, followed by a social hour and dinner of apple and brie stuffed-chicken with sherry cream sauce, wild rice pilaf and French green beans. Dinner music was by QuadraJazz and several decades worth of dance music was by the Little Rock band Mr. Happy. Leslee Wright was master of ceremonies and Dick Trammel was the live auctioneer. Elegantly painted fabric panels made by Garrett Hunt created a unique setting for the event. Lighting was by the Walton Arts Center’s Steve Wilhelm and the programs were the work of Joyce Stafford.
