RTC to offer dental hygienist program next year - Rolla Daily News
Beginning in the fall of 2007, the two-year dental hygienist program will train 10 to 12 students a year. The program that was once offered at the Rolla Technical Center is being restarted thanks to a $1 million federal grant, a $225,000 state development grant and a partnership with Missouri Southern University in Joplin, Mo.“This program is in demand statewide and locally because there’s a tremendous shortage of qualified dental assistants,” Dr. Janece Martin, director of vocational programming for the Rolla Technical Center and the Rolla Technical Institute, said. “We’ve had a lot of support from our local dental association and area dentists because they are very aware of the need for having highly qualified dental hygienists in their offices, and because there is a shortage of them in this area.”The new dental hygienist program will combine resources from the Rolla Technical Center and Missouri Southern University to give students classroom knowledge and hands-on experience.
