Wayne State Open Mic Night slams - The South End
Thursday night, Wayne State University students took part in an open mike session in the Bernath Auditorium on the first floor of the David Adamany Undergraduate Library.The fresh-faced, shaggy haired members of band Doll Faces were the opening act, playing acoustic sets. They brought many of their fans with them and made jokes with the audience.Noah Morgan is the man behind Thursday’s night open mike. Morgan, a junior majoring in pre-med with a focus in English, would like the Open Mic Night to become a regular event at WSU. The event, sponsored by the Wayne Writer’s Forum and the Living and Learning Community at WSU, drew in a large crowd, mostly freshmen living on campus in Ghafari and South Residence Halls. M.L. Libeler of the English Department helped get the event on its feet. Leibler is the faculty associate for city life and the Wayne Writer’s Forum. “M.L. [Leibler] is great,” says Morgan, who serves as president of the Writer’s Forum. “I would say he is my mentor.” Morgan also had help from Meghan Curavo, another member of the Writer’s Forum. Both Morgan and Curavo are residence hall assistants.“We wanted open mic night to bring out the creativity in the - more available
