Nearly $300,000 in Grants Awarded to 60 Economic Development Programs SAN FRANCISCO, Oct. 18 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Continuing its commitment to support the economic vitality of the communities it serves, Pacific Gas and Electric Company today announced the granting of $299,650 to 60 community- based organizations for local economic development and community development projects throughout northern and central California. This marks the fourth year of funding for the company's Economic Development Grant Program, which is supported through PG&E's shareholder-funded charitable giving program. Governments and 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations throughout PG&E's service area were eligible to apply for grants up to $10,000. Applications were judged in two categories: economic development and community development. "The continued necessity for public/private partnerships of this kind is undeniable with 219 of organizations requesting over $1.9 million," said Beverly Alexander, vice president of customer satisfaction for Pacific Gas and Electric Company. "Choosing between the many worthwhile projects was challenging.
