Letters written through 1949 told of John's war experiences. His medical assignments overseas and after Pearl Harbor were related to Mary in detail. In 1958, when Mary's oldest daughter graduated from nursing school, Mary asked her to visit John, in uniform, at Boston City Hospital. She wanted him to see the third generation of nurses in her family and share her pride.
