The hamlet has the look and feel of a village, with a thriving downtown along a portion of Stewart Avenue and Broadway, where several homegrown businesses such as Brettons Deli, Norma's School of Dance and Emblem Mart, a silk-screening company, are located. Broadway is entering its second phase of a beautification project that will include brick walks, plantings and old-fashioned streetlights. It should be completed this year, said Nassau County Legis. Ed Mangano (R-Bethpage), another long-time resident. More shops, services and eateries can be found along Route 24, Hempstead Turnpike, and Route 107, Hicksville Road. Bethpage's big claim to history is the Grumman-built module that landed on the moon in 1969. Grumman, taken over by Northrop Corp. in 1994, still has a presence but has sold off much of its property, part of which was bought by Cablevision Systems Corp. Other enterprises include Briarcliffe College, Goya Foods - more available
