Great-grandfather loved politics, baseball - Auburn Citizen
Janelle Sweetman is granddaughter to Margaret Sweetman, historian for the village of Cato. Janelle grew up in the town of Cato and wrote this about her great grandfather, Dr. George Weber, while attending Daemen College.Many people in the world impact the lives of others, but few can say that they helped make an entire community a better place to live. George F. Weber was one man who truly changed and helped shape the community of Ira. Through his many acts of kindness, his intelligence, and financial stability, Dr. George Weber transformed an ordinary rural community into a healthy, beautiful, prosperous town.In addition to being a member of the bank and associated with many medical societies, Dr. Weber was also a staunch republican. He was very politically active and was a member of the Republican County Committee for 20 years. Other associations that Dr. George F. Weber belonged to were the Knights of Pythias of Hannibal, Cato Lodge No. 141, the Dairymen's Association, and the Independent Order of Odd Fellows No. 728 of Cato.
