The following are items of interest about Mid-Missouri residents attending college. ASHLEY MERTENS, son of Frank and Marineda Jung, Holts Summit, and Mickey and Barbara Mertens, Fulton, graduated with a degree in mining engineering from the University of Missouri-Rolla.He was the first mining engineering student inducted as an Academy Scholar, was outstanding aggregates graduate of 2005, received the external relations award, was a member of the first-place mucking team and served as captain in 2004 and 2005.Mertens is employed with Martin Marietta Aggregated, N.C.MEREDITH PETERS, Jefferson City, graduated with a bachelor's of science degree in education and a Lutheran teacher diploma from Concordia University. ASHLEY A. STIEFERMAN, Mokane, and DANE A. SCHAD, Holts Summit, both students at the University of Missouri-Columbia, received Greg Taylor Memorial scholarships.Stieferman is a senior, majoring in industrial engineering.Schad is a junior, majoring in mechanical engineering.JARED BROCKMEYER, Jefferson City and REBECCA CLAIRE BETTS, Lohman, graduated from Truman State University.Brockmeyer received a master's of arts degree in music.Betts received a bachelor's of arts degree in business administration.CASSEY KEMNA, daughter of Curtis and Betty Kemna, Meta, was named to the dean's list at the University of Evansville.Students must earn a 3.5 grade point average while carrying 12 or - more available
