Others think women may hinder themselves. Joan Bailey, vice president for academic affairs at the College of New Rochelle, tells a story about a women's science class that for a short period accepted two men. Within days, she said, the women stopped setting up chairs and other equipment because the men jumped in and did it for them. Women "self-edit in order to be more attractive to the opposite sex," she said. "Without notice, women will defer to men in their position."
