Artists' journey one of courage and creativity - San Diego Union Tribune
Lin directed this and other of Gao's experimental early plays, yet Lin stayed on in his repressive homeland, weathering the crackdowns against creative expression that drove his friend away. Lin still works at the People's Art Theatre, but now has taken his Lin Jhouhoa Drama Studio in Beijing from what he calls "the underground" into visibility. He also heads a new graduate theater institute at Beijing University, a post that partially accounts for his first trip to the United States.
