The minority report - The North Carolina State Technician
Many say these organizations served their purpose back then, but are unnecessary in 2005. I beg to differ. According to University Planning & Analysis, the graduation rate of white males is almost twice that of all minority students combined. But, through the active involvement of minority organizations on campus these numbers are changing for the better. Lambda Pi Chi, the Latina sorority, has held the highest GPA of all greek organizations for two years straight. This is just a testament to the national statistics that correlate student involvement in diverse organizations to academic and professional excellence. Someone even made the comment of why there wasn't a Jewish paper, a Latino paper, etc. -- implying that it is ridiculous for this campus to have minority newspapers. However, in Raleigh there are many minority papers in circulation separate from The News & Observer. I don't see the problem with a Latino paper, a Jewish paper, or even this liberal paper people are buzzing about -- it actually leads to the answer to another argument raised about minority organizations being unrealistic.
