Born April 12, 1914, in Sackets Harbor the daughter of Edward and Evelyn Sutherland Stokes, she graduated from Sackets Harbor school. She was also a graduate of Newcomb Beauty Academy of Watertown as well. She owned and operated Vera’s Beauty Saloon at different downtown Watertown locations from the time she started the business in the early 1950’s until her retirement in 1994.
