AUBREY PATTERSON: Seize the opportunity in Wellspring Project - Northeast Mississippi Daily Journal
During the past week considerable conversation has taken place within Northeast Mississippi and in Jackson concerning the Wellspring Project. The catalyst for this elevated level of conversation was the visit on Nov. 2, by about 50 regional elected officials, economic developers, and community leaders who met with members of the House Ways and Means Committee and with Lieutenant Gov. Tuck and Speaker McCoy.Much work (and significant state and local investment to the tune of approximately $650,000) has been undertaken by Pontotoc, Union, and Lee County and the cities of Pontotoc, New Albany, and Tupelo over a four-year period. The Pontotoc, Union, Lee (PUL) Alliance is Mississippi's first regional economic development alliance. When Mississippi's economic development efforts were realigned several years ago, the law provided multi-governmental jurisdictions to work together in an effort to recruit major economic development projects to a region.This particular project has been named the Wellspring Project. Three Rivers Planning and Development District is the administrative agency and the Community Development Foundation serves as the recruitment and marketing agency.The Oxford English dictionary defines wellspring as a constant source of supply.
