But when the Coalition Government was returned to office and the Minister for Vocational and Technical Education, Gary Hardgrave, announced its new VET policy initiatives, any hopes of extra money for TAFE were dashed. Instead, the Government signalled its intention to create new technical colleges, tie future TAFE funding to controversial industrial relations reforms and allow private registered training organisations access to TAFE infrastructure. It also answered calls from big business to allow private providers to compete for an even greater share of public vocational and educational training (VET) funds.
