Black History - Chattanooga Pulse
Napoleon Williams was the first African American to be promoted to the Detective Division of the Chattanooga Police Department. Detective Williams graduated from Howard High School and Cleveland State Community College. He also studied at Atlanta’s Morehouse College and at UTC. In 1964, Williams joined the police force as a rookie patrolman. On his first day on the job, he solved two separate armed robberies. In 1968, he was promoted to detective.
