Briefly: University of Memphis women's soccer goalkeeper Isabel Briones has been named C-USA co-defensive player of the week. The sophomore recorded her fifth shutout of the year last Friday as the Tigers handed UAB its first conference loss of the season, 1-0. ... Former Fairley standout Courtney Richardson, a freshman defensive end at Tennessee State, has been named Ohio Valley Conference Newcomer of the Week. Richardson had five tackles, 21/2 for lost yardage, and returned a fumble 30 yards for a touchdown as the Tigers beat Tennessee Tech, 31-20, last Thursday. ... Miami fired defensive line coach Greg Mark, a surprising development for a team with the nation's top-ranked defense. Mark's responsibilities will now fall to defensive coordinator Randy Shannon, Hurricanes coach Larry Coker said in a terse, short release sent out by school officials. "This is a private, in-house matter and I will have no further comment," Coker said.
