Cards come alive late to down Kilgore, 28-24 By Benny Rogers Sports EditorThe Trinity Valley Community College-Kilgore College game kicked off at 3 p.m. Saturday.The Cardinal offense showed up about two and-a-half hours later.It was just in time.Thirteenth-ranked TVCC scored a pair of touchdowns in the final eight minutes Saturday to wipe out a 10-point deficit and take a 28-24 Southwest Junior College Football Conference decision at Bruce Field.The better-late-than-never victory moved third-year coach Mark Sartain’s TVCC squad back atop the conference standings by a half-game. The Cardinals, 5-2 overall, are 3-1 in SWJCFC play. No. 2 Blinn, a 43-28 loser Saturday at NEO, and Cisco, a 43-21 winner over Navarro, are 2-1.TVCC is scheduled to be back in action Saturday at Trinity Mother Frances Rose Stadium in Tyler against the Tyler Junior College Apaches. Kickoff for the TJC homecoming game is 1 p.m.The situation looked bleak for the Cardinals as the fourth quarter got under way. The Rangers, who led 17-14 at halftime, were up 24-14.TVCC was fortunate it wasn’t a deeper hole.
