Volunteers sought for city programs - Rutland Herald
The Retired and Senior Volunteer Program and The Volunteer Center have opportunities available throughout Rutland County in many nonprofit agencies.Interested volunteers can call the office at 775-8220 or (800) 835-9879, or stop by the office at 39 East Center St. for more information and referral.The following volunteer opportunities have been requested and are open to all ages:In education: Tutors, mentors, after-school project helpers, classroom helpers, library assistants, clerical aides, storytellers, child-care assistants, adult nurturers, and reading and discussion group leaders are needed. Also needed are people with specific travel, history, collecting and special interest knowledge to share their expertise and talents.In health care: Volunteers are sought to visit patients, assist at clinics, or serve as patient greeters, receptionists, couriers, clerical aides, gift and coffee shop helpers. Also needed are people to entertain nursing home residents, letter writers, bingo callers, craft assistants, and walking and exercise leaders.In human service: Drivers, knitters, sewers and United Way volunteers are needed. There is a need for kitchen and meal delivery assistants, and people to prepare mailings, assist in outings and field trips, facility patient advocates, blood drive and flu clinic assistants.
