Montesano — For most women, juggling a job, three kids and a husband is a full plate. But in her spare time Christy McAllister, 38, has earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Washington State University via the Internet.She spent two years glued to a computer in a corner of the dining room at her Montesano home — her youngest son, Luke, now 3, often by her side.“I spent a lot of hours over there in that chair,” she said. “He (Luke) grew up beside me over there.”At times, she spent up to 12 hours a day at the computer, until her eyes “started to go blurry” and she could no longer read the text on the screen, she said.McAllister earned her degree in social sciences. She did not major in any one field, but earned enough credits for “concentrations” in psychology, sociology and political science.It’s an interesting mix, she acknowledged, saying the sociology and the psychology complement each other.McAllister started working on a college degree at Grays Harbor College.
