Chinese school founder shares her culture - Bellingham Herald
The idea came to Ellen Yang in the faces of Chinese children who were adopted into Whatcom County homes.It was about 10 years ago. Yang - who was born in China, grew up in Taiwan and has lived in Whatcom County since 1976 - recalls seeing an increasing number of such children. Then, too, their parents were eager to learn about China. Ellen Yang (center) and Wendy Hagin (right) rehearse a traditional Chinese fan dance. The dance group, which includes 10 women, performed during the Autumn Moon Festival in September at Fairhaven Village Green.
