Council of Partners Brings Schools Together - ChallengerNKY.com
"We break down barriers," Stonewater says. "Over the years, we got rid of the blame game."No Dialogue"Back in 1993, when we started the Council of Partners, there wasn't any amount of dialogue between levels of schools," says one of the council founders, Dr. Ray Hebert of Thomas More College. "High schools blamed colleges, colleges blamed high schools if a question came up or students didn't seem properly prepared." "The best thing we did was hire Barbara Stonewater," Hebert says.Another co-founder, Jack Moreland, superintendent of Covington Independent Public Schools, echoed Hebert's endorsement. Hebert, along with Moreland and Dr. Leon Boothe, past president of Northern Kentucky University, brought the council to life."The council has exceeded my wildest dreams," Moreland says.During Education Week, this Monday through Friday, the council has planned events including a recognition dinner Tuesday from 5:30 to 8 p.m. at Thomas More College's Steigerwald Hall. More than 100 area educators who have distinguished themselves over the past year will be recognized. In addition, awards for "Contributions to Collaboration" are given to an individual and a program or project for collaboration across educational levels; to an individual for business education collaboration.
