Washington: For long it was believed that violent video games had a negative impact on the human brain and led to increased aggression, and a new study has now, vindicated that argument, by showing that violent video games lead to brain activity that was characteristic of aggressive thoughts. Studies conducted by Professor Rene Weber from the Michigan State University along with researchers from Germany and Southern California, on 13 male research participants revealed that a short-term neurological link existed between aggression and watching violent video games. “There is a causal link between playing the first-person shooting game in our experiment and brain-activity pattern that are considered as characteristic for aggressive cognition and affects. There is a neurological link and there is a short-term causal relationship,” said Prof Weber. The participants (13 male German volunteers between aged 18-26) were allowed to play the mature-rated first-person-shooter game “Tactical Ops: Assault on Terror” for five rounds, 12 minutes per round, with a fMRI scanner recording the brain activity throughout the game play.
