Daytona no day at the beach - The Tribune-Democrat
Johnstown driver Chris Gleason and his Blackforest Motorsports teammates have taken a step up this year in the Rolex Daytona 24-hour race, set to begin at noon Saturday at Daytona International Speedway in Daytona Beach, Fla.Gleason will be racing the No. 50 Ford Crawford, powered by a Robert Yates engine, along with teammates Henri Zogaib of Daytona Beach, Ian James of Phoenix, and Tom Nastasi of Stamford, Conn., in the Daytona Prototype (DP) Class, the top division of drivers in this year’s competition, the 44th running of the 24-hour race.“I’m excited to be running in this field of cars, which is very impressive,” Gleason said. “This is the offseason for many of the other series, so a lot of the drivers want to get a chance to race. It’s really kind of an honor to be competing against a lot of these drivers. There is probably no other field like this in any other race in the world.”The current 33-car field of DP class cars consists of a melting pot of NASCAR, Indy Racing League, Pro-Am, CART, Champ and Formula-One series drivers, all competing against the clock in the endurance race.Some of Gleason’s fellow competitors scheduled to be on hand - more available
