Houston risks falling behind in nano field - Houston Chronicle
M.D. Anderson led the local bid by a dozen researchers for one of the centers of excellence, which were the primary component of the National Cancer Institute's nanomedicine initiative. With $100 million in annual funding from the cancer institute already, M.D. Anderson sought the prestige of a "center of excellence" as much as the money. Such a center designates an institution, or group of institutions, as a premiere spot for a particular type of research.
